Botanik Customer Questions - Shayz Tanning Ledge Loungers

Shayz loungers are specifically designed for in-pool use on tanning ledges and sun shelves. Unlike patio chairs, they stay stable in shallow water, don’t tip or drift, and are resistant to damage from chlorine or saltwater. Their water-fillable design adds weight, preventing floating and keeping the chair securely in place. Ergonomic contours provide comfort in water. Patio chairs are not made to sit partially submerged, so they can tip, float, or deteriorate when used on a ledge.

Shayz loungers can fit on a pool ledge as short as 49 inches when used without a riser. If your water depth requires a riser, the ledge should be at least 52 inches long.

For comfort and mobility, many customers prefer additional space to walk around the front of the Shayz. When planning a new pool or ledge, a length of 72 inches provides an ideal amount of space for lounging and access.

When used within the recommended water depth ranges, with or without risers, Shayz loungers are designed to remain stable on a tanning ledge.

If the lounger is placed in water deeper than recommended or without the appropriate riser, the front (foot) of the chair may become buoyant and lift slightly from the ledge. While the chair may still appear mostly in place, this partial lift can allow movement, which is not desirable and may affect the pool surface over time.

Using the correct riser for your water depth helps prevent buoyancy-related lifting and keeps the lounger stable and stationary.

YES. The pair of Shayz loungers are designed for use in approximately 0–5 inches of water without risers. If your tanning ledge is deeper than 5 inches, risers are required. When used beyond the recommended depth without risers, buoyancy forces can cause the front (foot) of each lounger to lift, making them unstable when unoccupied. With the appropriate risers installed, the pair of Shayz loungers are designed to operate as intended in water depths of up to approximately 17 inches without floating.

The listed seat heights for Shayz loungers refer to the height of the drain hole at the base of the seat. Water will begin to enter the chair if the water level reaches this opening. To stay mostly dry, choose a riser that places the drain hole above your typical water depth. Because waves and movement can raise water levels temporarily, allowing extra clearance is recommended.

The headrest pillows are weatherproof and can be left outside on the Shayz when it is not in use. 

The Shayz Speed Fill ballast system allows quick filling and emptying with pool water. Dunking the lounger in the pool is the fastest way to fill it, but the optional vacuum pump can be used to “top off” water levels. Simply attach the pump to the side valve, remove the air until water reaches valve level, and let it overflow slightly. Once full, close the valve and remove the pump.
