Sunbrella is a solution-dyed acrylic performance fabric. The color is added before the fiber is formed, so it runs all the way through the yarn instead of sitting on the surface.
Most Elaine Smith pillows use solution-dyed acrylic fabric, which Elaine Smith backs with a 3-year limited warranty against excessive fading, loss of fabric strength and abrasion under normal outdoor exposure.
Many lower-cost outdoor pillows use polyester fabric that is printed or dyed after weaving, so the color can fade sooner in strong sun. In solution-dyed acrylic, the color is part of the fiber itself, which is why it holds its color longer and cleans up more easily.
Every pillow carries a 1-year craftsmanship warranty against manufacturing defects such as sewing and construction issues. Most pillows also carry the 3-year limited fabric warranty. Both run from the date of purchase.
Not covered: abnormal wear and tear, improper care or cleaning, and damage from misuse, neglect or accident.
Every pillow comes with a hypoallergenic polyester fiber insert, which gives a fuller look and a firmer, more supportive shape. For a plusher feel, upgrade to a hypoallergenic faux-down insert, which can be shaped with a chop for a relaxed, designer look. Both inserts are outdoor safe and machine washable.
Faux-down is an optional upgrade for an additional charge per pillow. Ask us when you order and we will set it up.
Brush off dirt as it appears, shake off rain and wipe up spills quickly. For seasonal cleaning, unzip the cover, machine wash it in cold water with a mild detergent and let it air dry. For a stubborn spot, mist it with a gentle cleaning solution, work it in with a sponge or very soft brush, rinse thoroughly, blot and air dry. The fabrics are not dry-cleanable and should not be steam cleaned at high temperature.
Mildew: The fabrics resist mildew, but it can grow on dirt trapped in the fibers. Elaine Smith recommends spot cleaning with 1 cup of bleach and 1/4 cup of mild liquid soap per gallon of clean water.

Yes. The solution-dyed fabrics keep their appearance both indoors and out, so the same pillows work on a covered patio and on an indoor sofa.
Yes. We keep several Elaine Smith pillows poolside ourselves, and after a few years of rain, snow and sun they have performed just as intended. The fabrics are made to resist rain, sun, stains and mildew, and the covers are removable and machine washable, which suits poolside lounging.
